This was confirmed yesterday by the Supervisor of Elections Mohammed Saneem during his presentation to the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Justice, Law and Human Rights on the 2014 General Election reports.

SANEEM: “We are currently working on a mobile application on your mobile phone, so in the next election you don’t have to be glued to the TV literally to get the next results.”

Mr Saneem said that the application will be updated very 15 to 20 minutes or half an hour and provisional results will be directly uploaded to the mobile application.

SANEEM: “So sitting at your own leisure you will be able to get specific results by a candidate of a political party, by newest result, by polling station, by percentage and by turnout.”

“So these are all technological advances that the Fijian Elections Office are currently exploring, we do note that we have two years from now which is not a long time but it is also a good time.”

Meanwhile, Mr Saneem also confirmed that a polling agent handbook would be released in the first quarter of 2017, the candidate handbook would be launched in the second quarter of 2017 along with a handbook for political parties and a separate handbook for media organizations to assist in reporting the next elections.
