Two families are mourning the loss of their loved ones following two separate drowning incidents involving children yesterday.

Police spokesperson Ms Ana Naisoro confirmed the two cases and said the drowning death toll was currently 20 compared to 33 for the same period last year.

7-year-old girl in Rewa

A 7-year-old girl was found by her mother floating in a nearby river in Muanaira, Vutia, Rewa at around 5pm yesterday.  She was playing outside while her mother attended to another sibling and the child was later found floating in a nearby river.

13-year-old girl in Lami

A 13-year-old student of Lami was found near the Veisari Bridge in Lami after she had jumped off the bridge but did not surface.  She was swimming with her cousins after 5pm when the incident occurred.
