Fiji and South Korea agree on military cooperation

The two countries signed a Memorandum of Understanding to extend collaboration between the two countries in defence and national security.

Defence Minister Hon. Ratu Inoke Kubuabola signed the MOU with his South Korean counterpart, General Han Min-Koo in Seoul this week.

The MOU covers cooperation in military education and training, military technology assistance, humanitarian assistance and disaster response, international peacekeeping, military medicine and health services, military sporting activities and cultural exchanges.

Minister Kubuabola said the MOU would enhance the firm friendship enjoyed between the Fijian and South Korean militaries and strengthen the capabilities of both armed forces.

The MOU’s implementation will be closely monitored by a working group of senior officials from both countries.

In the lead-up to the signing, Minister Kubuabola met with Korea’s Special Warfare & Counter Terrorism Commander Major General CHO Jung-Sul.

During his tour of South Korea, Minister Kubuabola visited the Seoul National Cemetery to pay respects at a wreath laying ceremony to fallen South Korean servicemen and women.

Minister, Kubuabola was accompanied by Fiji’s Ambassador to South Korea, H.E. Ambassador Filimone Kau, RFMF Chief of Staff Col. Litea Seruiratu and Defence Ministry Senior Advisor Mr. Joji Dumukuro.
