His Excellency the President, Major General (Ret’d) Jioji Konousi Konrote today received the credentials of the non-resident Canadian High Commissioner to Fiji.

The Head of State formalised the appointment of His Excellency Mario Bot by receiving his letters of credence at State House yesterday.

This ceremony was preceded by a 25 member guard of honour by members of the Republic of Fiji Military Forces that was accorded to the new envoy.

Mr Bot, who will be based in Wellington, New Zealand, graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Carleton University and is also a Chartered Professional Accountant, Certified Management Accountant.

Before his current posting, the diplomat served as Executive Director – Regional Services Centre and Consul General at the Canadian Embassy in Washington, DC, United States of America.

Before joining the Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development (DFATD), Mr Bot worked for Consulting and Audit Canada, an agency of the Canadian Government.

He joined the Office of the lnspector General in DFATD as a Senior Auditor in 1992 and progressed to Audit Manager, then Director of Audit and then Deputy lnspector General.

During his time in the Office of the lnspector General, Mr Bot inspected over 110 missions abroad and was posted overseas in London from 2006 – 2010 where he served as the Management and Consular Officer.
