Ambassador Khan has chaired the Friends of UNITAR, a body which supports and enhances the work of UNITAR in Geneva, for the past year, and this week stepped down to take the new position as a Board member. She then attended the 57th Session of the Board of Trustees in Geneva.

Speaking from Geneva, Ambassador Khan said that she was proud to take the position and that looked forward to working with the 12 Board members to ensure the continued success of UNITAR.

She said that with her own training background and work, she found the work of UNITAR in relation to diplomacy training, peacekeeping training, the use of UNOSAT to assist in disaster response work, and climate change negotiations training to be relevant and essential to the work of diplomats in the multilateral system.

Mrs Khan is the first Fijian to be appointed to the UNITAR Board of Trustees.
