Sixteen people who were charged in relation to the alleged attempt to form a sovereign state in Nadroga-Navosa appeared at the Lautoka High Court before Justice Thushara Rajasinghe today.

The sixteen are charged with one count each of sedition under section 67 (1) (a) and one count each of inciting communal antagonism under 65(2) (a) of the Crimes Decree 2009.

The accused persons are:

  5. Ulaiasi Rabua Tuivono
  6. Peniasi Naqau
  7. Semi Tanikili

  9. Ratu Tevita Khaikhainabokolawale Makutu
  10. Mosese Navaci
  11. Eroni Rikoriko
  12. Alifereti Nakuinivou
  13. Alifereti Gonewai
  14. Raicula Rokovou
  15. Adi Vasemaca Veikunekibulu Gonewai
  16. Jorama Ratulevu

All accused persons were present in court. A trial date has been fixed from the 1st of May to the 31st of May 2017.

The matter has been adjourned to the 30th of August 2016 for a Pre-Trial Conference.

Bail has been extended to all accused persons.
