An Indian national charged with one count of conspiracy to defraud and influencing a public official was sentenced to 2 years and 5 months imprisonment yesterday afternoon at the Suva Magistrates Court.

Anil Kumar appeared before Magistrate Waleen George for sentencing.

Kumar  had  conspired with another person with the intention of dishonestly influencing Fiji Immigration Officers in the exercise of their duties in the issuance of a passport.

Kumar will have to serve 2 years and five months imprisonment and will be eligible for parole after serving 1 year and 6 months imprisonment.

The Court has given him 28 days to appeal his sentence
