Fiji Times case moves to September for plea

The case against the Fiji Times and others accused of inciting communal antagonism has been adjourned to next month.

The matter was called today before Magistrate Shageeth Somaratne at the Suva Magistrates Court.

The Fiji Times Ltd and Josaia Waqabaca, Anare Ravula, Fred Wesley, Hank Arts were charged last month contrary to Section 65 (2) (a) (i) and Section 53 (1) of the Crimes Decree.

The accused allegedly made, or caused to be published, a statement in the iTaukei language in Nai Lalakai newspaper that is likely to incite dislike, hatred, or antagonism of the Muslim community.

Full disclosures were served by the State today.

The case will be called again on September 21, 2016 for plea.

Bail has been extended to all accused.
