Ben Padarath, who is alleged to have given false information to a public servant, today appeared in the Suva Magistrates Court before Magistrate Shageeth Somaratne.

The Magistrates Court has adjourned the matter to next week Wednesday 9th March 2016 for sentencing.

The Prosecution has already filed the sentencing submission, the defence counsel has also submitted their mitigation submission.

Padareth was charged by FICAC for giving false information. Earlier this year, Padarath pleaded guilty to one count of giving false information to a public servant after the summary of facts was read to him.

Case Summary: It was alleged that on the 23rd of January 2011, Padarath gave false information via text messages to the Director of Immigration, Nemani Vuniwaqa, intending to cause the Director of Immigration to put the name of one Paul Freeman on the Fiji Immigration watch list.
