The 29-year-old alleged to have caused the death of a woman and her daughter over the weekend has been charged and will be produced at a special court sitting at the Tavua Magistrates Court today.

The accused has been charged with two counts of dangerous driving occasioning death and one count of driving without a valid license.

The person who had allegedly allowed the accused to drive has also been charged with one count of “permitting the driver to drive a motor vehicle without a license.”

Mother and daughter lose their life in Kings Road accident

October 29 – A mother in her 20s and her 4-year-old daughter are believed to be the country’s latest road victims.

This follows an early morning accident at about 7.00am today at Nanuku along the Kings Road where the two victims are believed to have died after their veered off the road.

The two victims and relatives were travelling to Lautoka to attend a wedding when the accident occurred.

Due to the impact of the crash, the two were allegedly thrown out of the vehicle died at the scene. Another passenger sitting at the back sustained injuries and is currently admitted at the Rakiraki Hospital.

The 21-year-old driver and a passenger seated in the front seat sustained minor injuries and are now being questioned. It is also alleged that the 21-year-old driver did not have a driver’s license.

The road death toll currently stands at 46 compared to 55 last year.
