The 42-year-old driver of the four-wheel drive vehicle which was involved in an accident along the Nabouwalu Highway at Naibulu, Dreketi yesterday that resulted in the death of a 30-year-old man is expected to be questioned soon.

Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro said the driver will be questioned soon and the post-mortem of the deceased is yet to be conducted.

Naisoro said the driver’s 18-year-old daughter is still admitted in critical condition at the Labasa Hospital.

Police are urging the general public to be more vigilant and cautious while driving on the road.

A 30-year-old man died after the vehicle he was travelling in veered off the road and tumbled several times along the Nabouwalu Highway at Naibulu, Dreketi this morning at about 10.00 am.

The victim was riding on the back of a four-wheel drive vehicle driven by a 42-year-old of Naodamu, Labasa.

Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro said the driver’s 43-year-old wife and their three children were also travelling in the vehicle.

NAISORO: “They had picked up the victim while on their way to Labasa when it is alleged the driver lost control of the vehicle causing it to veer off the road, tumbling several times.  The victim who was riding at the back of the vehicle died as a result.”

Naisoro said one of the driver’s daughters, who is 18 years old, is admitted in critical condition at the Labasa Hospital while the driver, his wife, and two other children are under observation.

A post-mortem examination on the deceased will be conducted later.
