The Fiji Police Force is hoping people will plan their activities accordingly to avoid being caught in situations that can result in death.

According to Director Traffic, SSP Mahesh Mishra, speeding continues to be the leading cause of road fatalities, more road deaths are usually recorded between the months of October to January.

MISHRA: “We are also reiterating the role pedestrians have in road safety as already this year 10 causes of fatal accidents were attributed to pedestrians being at fault. We need to work together if we are to have an enjoyable festive season free of road accidents and fatalities.”

Speeding continued to be the leading cause of road deaths this year, responsible for 21 out of 49 deaths this year.  “Pedestrian Fault” accounted for another 10 deaths.
