Police have charged the 38-year-old taxi driver of Vuci Nausori for one count of ‘Dangerous driving occasioning death’.

A 35-year-old casual worker of Vuci Rd, Nausori died in an accident at Vuci South Road early yesterday morning.

He was walking along Vuci South road when hit by a taxi driven by the taxi driver.

Police spokesperson Inspector Josaia Weicavu said that the suspect is in police custody.

WEICAVU: “We would like to warn drivers again to drive responsibly this weekend because of the Coke games and the beginning of the first term school holiday. We will be out in numbers to cover our streets and towns this weekend. Please don’t drink and drive. We will check every vehicle that come across our checkpoints and snap checks location from today (yesterday).”

Inspector Weicavu said the man will appear in custody at the Nausori magistrate court on Monday 2/5/16.

The road death toll now stands at 14 compared to 23 for the same period last year.
