5 businesses to be fined for VAT infringement

Five businesses are expected to be fined for failing to pass VAT reductions to their customers, while another twenty are currently under investigation.

Fiji Revenue Customs Authority Acting Chief Executive Officer, Visvanath Das, told Fijivillage the five included:

  • a clothing shop
  • bread shop
  • restaurant
  • bookshop and
  • supermarket

Mr. Das said another 20 cases are currently being investigated and businesses can be fined up to $50,000.  He said traders who do not comply can also face up to 10 years imprisonment and a $100,000 fine upon conviction.
