Minister for Immigration, National Security, and Defense, Hon. Timoci Lesi Natuva informed Parliament that the military shipment from Russia cost the Government $19 million.

Minister Natuva was responding to a parliamentary question by Opposition parliamentarian Hon. Salote Radrodro.  The cargo included military arms and ammunition and supplementary infrastructure.

The Republic of Fiji Military Forces and the Russian Government signed an MOU in June 2013, following Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama’s visit to Russia. The agreement included cooperation in public health, specialized human resources building and defense.

Opposition member Hon. Salote Radrodro asked Parliament why the $19million of military arms not included in the National Budget.  Minister Natuva said that the agreement of the costs of imported Russian arms was made after the 2016 National Budget announcement.
