The body of a man who was swept away by strong currents at the Sigatoka river on Sunday afternoon has been found.

Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro said the body of the 30-year-old man of Nadrala was discovered by police officers yesterday morning.

NAISORO: “The Fiji Police officers managed to recover the body at about 10 o’clock in the morning.  The man was trying to cross the Sigatoka River from Kavanagasau to Naduri to meet a relative when he was swept away.”

Ms Naisoro added that post-mortem is expected to be conducted today.

A 30-year-year old man of Nadrala was swept away by strong currents yesterday afternoon.

In a statement, Police Spokesperson Ana Naisoro said the incident occurred after 5pm.

Naisoro said the man was trying to cross the Sigatoka River from Kavanagasau to Naduri to meet a relative when he was swept away.

She said the Fiji Police Force is expected to continue with the search today.

NAISORO: “A search was conducted but was called off due to poor visibility and is expected to continue this morning.”
