The trucks which are a gift from the Government of Japan are expected to minimise the workload of municipal waste management.

Minister Kumar in acknowledging the Government of Japan stated that the donation had come under the Japan’s Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Project known as the GGP programme and it is valued at $FJ 179,043.00.

The Minister highlighted that the economic development of Nadi including the upgrade of the Nadi International Airport, the construction of the four-lane road, the extension to the Nadi Municipal Market had increased the workload on the management of garbage and other municipal waste management systems.

He has assured the Government of Japan that the new garbage truck will enable the council to have a much safer and efficient collection system, thus not only minimising health risks but the spread of diseases by flies and rodents, in having an improved and sanitary environment.
