A 38-year-old driver who was involved in a fatal accident at Varavu, Ba on Friday night has been questioned by police and released.

This was confirmed by Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro.

The accident claimed the life of a 47-year-old man.

Naisoro said they will wait for the post-mortem result before the driver could be charged.

NAISORO: “We will wait on the post-mortem result before the driver could be charged.”

Naisoro said the victim’s wife and two children aged two and one are still admitted in the Lautoka Hospital in critical conditions.

A 47-year-old man died following a tragic road accident in Varavu, Ba last night.

In a statement, Director Traffic SSP Mahesh Mishra said the incident occurred a little after 6pm.

MISHRA: “It is alleged that one of the tyres of the vehicle driven by the 38-year-old suspect burst causing the vehicle to veer onto the opposite lane and collided with the victim’s vehicle where his wife and two young children were also travelling in.”

SSP Mishra said the victim’s wife and two children aged two and one are currently admitted in the Lautoka Hospital in critical conditions.

He said that the post-mortem will be conducted.

The road death toll currently stands at 27 compared to 34.
