 An 11-month-old baby boy in Labasa is the country’s latest drowning victim.

Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro said the baby drowned in a bucket of water yesterday.

NAISORO: “We have the report. The father came home and discovered the baby in the bucket of water. The mother was at home with the child. Investigations will look into what exactly happened.”

Police are expected to conduct a post-mortem examination soon.

The current drowning statistics reveal that 12 people died as a result of drowning.

The figure excludes the latest incident in Labasa as the Fiji Police Force awaits the post-mortem report.
