A man escaped serious injuries when a truck he was driving veered off a bridge in Korovou along Kings highway and landed in a river.

The accident occurred in Korovou along Kings highway around 11:50am today.

Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro said the driver had fallen off to sleep.

NAISORO: “A few minutes of rest could actually avoid such accidents from happening because the driver said he fell asleep. There have been cases of driving fatigue, especially drivers who have to travel early mornings in long rural trips.If they need to pull over to rest then do so.”

Naisoro the seven-tonne truck was heading towards Suva from Ba.

The driver is admitted at Korovou Hospital and is under observation.

Naisoro said no passengers were in the truck when the accident occurred.
