Fiji’s first live event show TEDxSuva was launched yesterday and will provide the platform for showcasing innovative and creative ideas about Fiji and the Pacific to the world.
TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share experiences. The events theme is voyage which will explore the depth and intellect that exists in Fiji and showcase it to a world stage with 7 local speakers from a broad array of industries.
TEDxSuva has teamed up with UN Pacific as its major sponsor. The partnership is dedicated to showcasing innovative ideas both on the TEDxSuva stage and within the projects and work that UN Pacific are committed to in Fiji and the region.
UNDP Resident Coordinator, Ms. Osnat Lubrani said the opportunity to support the first ever TEDx event in any Pacific Island country will support innovation in Fiji.
UN in the Pacific is excited to support this event as it harnesses the creative energy and new thinking bubbling up throughout the Pacific region, central to this is innovation and collaboration which are building onto the new Sustainable Agenda 2030.
TEDxSuva Licence holder, Ms Raijeli Nicole said this event and this partnership shows Fiji’s commitment to innovation and ideas with support for TEDxSuva being overwhelming in the lead up to the event.
This event is the first of its kind in Fiji and the response to our online ticket application has been great with people all over the region wanting to come and be a part of this event. It is with the support of partners like UN Pacific that this is possible so we thank our partners for their commitment to innovation in Fiji where ideas are created and stand on a world stage.
The event is called TEDxSUVA, where x = independently organised TED event. At the TEDxSuva event, TEDTalks video and live speakers will combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group.
TEDxSuva will officially kick off on the 23rd of April at the USP Performance Space, the first ever live TEDx event to be held in the country and the Pacific region.

- What it means to be a Fijian male
- how to help our coral grow
- how we can re-look at Pacific education
- Personal stories that have challenged the status quo
- Health concerns and how to overcome them with locally created solutions.
Tickets are free but people hoping to come must complete an application form on the website www.tedxsuva.com/apply
