Borron Road in Suva will undergo major road upgrade works from October 30.

According to the FRA’s General Manager Network Operations and Maintenance, Aram Goes the new works will start on October 30 and end on November 13.

Mr Goes said that contractors would remove the “badly deformed” surface which has deteriorated due to old age and high vehicle use stresses.

“We have adopted a Mill and Fill method which will require removing the existing pavement, clean and apply a membrane seal and then pave a fresh asphaltic concrete layer top as the finishing,” said Goes.

The roads cannot be waterproofed by conventional chip sealing and have been tested for strength with only isolated sections identified as requiring structural pavement repairs before the surfacing treatment.

“These weaker sections will be fully dug out and reconstructed prior to the new asphaltic concrete surface being applied. Some of the other works include repairing footpaths, removing and replacing kerbs and channels, installing new signs and line marking,” said Goes.

Once the road work is completed, Goes said “it would improve the level of safety and provide a smooth journey to the motorists, with more visible signage and road markings.

Other road reconstruction in progress around Suva area includes Kings Road, Ratu Mara Road, Princes Road, McArthur Street, and Ratu Cakabau Road.
