Blues Band will host a number of master classes for the National Youth Band, Suva Grammar School, and Marist Brothers High School.

French Embassy head of culture, Emmanuelle Charrier acknowledged the support from the Ministry of Youth and Sports.

CHARRIER: “The Honorable Minister for Youth and Sports officially launched the 2015 festival and had enquired about the possibilities of collaborating with the Ministry to hold master classes for the national youth band. We are delighted to renew our partnership with the Ministry this year.”

Band member, Stéphane Fernandez said the band is looking forward to the weeklong program in Suva.

FERNANDEZ: “We have been looking forward to this festival and we will have some Brazilian tunes, classical jazz but at the same time, we want to stay true to our jazz and blues.”

Blues Band will join other musicians on Friday to close the festival with raw, energetic renditions of some classical jazz and blues as well as performing requests from the crowd for an encore.

The popular music festival drew positive responses after last year’s introduction of the gypsy jazz genre.

The 2016 Music Festival will be held at the Fiji Museum from this afternoon to Friday.
