In a statement, the Fiji Sugar Corporation’s Head of Strategic Marketing, Elenoa Korovulavula said sugar produced was 39% higher to 2016 at 54,174 tonnes.

The mill improved its Tons Cane to Tons Sugar performance, achieving 8.4 compared to 1.7 in 2016, which according to Korovulavula, translated to a more efficient crushing season.

The General Manager for the Lautoka mill, Mika Biukoto, advised growers to make use of the Government’s support to increase the crop for Lautoka mill, urging them to contact and visit FSC sector offices if they need assistance.

The Rarawai mill is expected to close on October 28 while the Labasa mill is estimated to end crushing on November 15.
