This was highlighted by the Minister for Local Government, Housing, Environment, Infrastructure and Transport Hon. Parveen Kumar Bala at the launch of the new vessel at Narain Jetty in Walu Bay.

The ship, an addition to vessels owned by Goundar Shipping, will link Savusavu to Taveuni, Rotuma to Suva, and Koro and Kadavu to Taveuni.

Minister Bala said Lomaiviti Princess 4 would help make sea travel modern, comfortable and safe.

“This vessel can carry 400 passengers, and the vehicle deck where we sit right now can load 6 ten wheeler trucks or 19 cars. This new vessel is also bringing employment opportunities to ten people who will become members of the ship’s crew,” Minister Bala said.

Minister Bala added Government acknowledged the efforts and investment of the shipping industry in Fiji.

“I am also well aware of the need for all shipping operators to operate according to passenger timetables, ensure ships are clean and healthy food is offered on ships at a reasonable price. I think we can do better,” Minister Bala said.

Goundar Shipping director, George Goundar stated that they strived towards improving island coastal travel experience in Fiji through excellence in service and innovation.
