Wailevu West Costal Road is located 35km from Savusavu connecting Nabouwalu-Labasa to the Savusavu main highway at Naibalebale Village.

Fulton Hogan Hiways Savusavu Depot Stabilising Supervisor, George Hughes said the Wailevu West Coast road was sealed years earlier, but the road has deteriorated and needed immediate actions.

HUGHES: “The section that sits between Vativa and Naloaloa Villages and faces Batibalavu District School was initially sealed years earlier but through normal wear and tear from local traffic as well as carrying the added burden of logging trucks has deteriorated and needed immediate attention.”

Fulton Hogan Highway started with upgrading works this week widening the road from 3 meters to 6 meters,¬†as well as grading, compacting and “gravelling” with crushed rocks, stabilising and sealing.

The Head Teacher of Batibalavu District School Tokai Vatudamu said school students would benefit the most from it.

VATUDAMU: “School children who often found it difficult to use the road when it rained now find it safe and secure. The improved road has made all the difference to them. Thank you Fulton Hogan.”
