Fulton Hogan Hiways (FHH) is asking the travelling public be extra careful if they have to use Ratu Cakobau Road in Suva, as most of the road is closed with no access from Victoria Parade/Queen Elizabeth Drive.

People visiting the museum and the restaurant in the old lawn tennis clubrooms must approach from the direction of the Domain or Williamson Road.

Project Manager Ciaron Kelly said Ratu Cakobau Road is a construction zone with heavy machinery at work.

KELLY: “We urge motorists and pedestrians to please exercise extreme caution. Please drive slowly and obey all signs and directions given by FHH staff. We want everyone to reach their destinations safely.”

Mr. Kelly said as part of the rehabilitation and reconstruction work on the 369 metre-long road, the FHH crew has removed old kerbs and channels, footpaths and a retaining wall.”

KELLY: “We are currently digging out the existing pavement on the road and stabilizing this with a grader and roller for strength and durability. We will replace the pavement with a 570mm-thick, stabilized cement pavement that will then be sealed with an AC wearing course.”

The completed reconstruction will see the road widened from seven to 9.6 meters, with new footpaths, an improved drainage system and a parking bay on the Albert Park side of the road.

Fulton Hogan Hiways is working closely with the Fiji Roads Authority to provide road maintenance in Fiji.
