The Fiji Police Force have confirmed that road closures around the main Suva area will be made to accommodate the arrival of New Zealand’s Prime Minister John Key into the country later this afternoon.

Senior Superintendent of Police, Director of Operations Tito Elo said members need to take alternative routes as traffic will be affected due to road closures.

The road from Nausori Airport to Grand Pacific Hotel is expected to be closed from 3pm and it will be opened after the New Zealand Prime Minister’s motorcade and delegation pass through.

There will also be a road closure from Borron House to Rewa Street.

The Southern Cross road junction beside Albert Park and Queen Elizabeth Drive will also be closed from the junction of Ratu Sukuna Road from 5pm to 6pm today.

Road closures are also expected along Gladstone Road from 8am tomorrow.

ELO: “For the traditional welcoming ceremony at the I-taukei Fijian Trust Ground, Nasova Ground at 5:35pm the road from the Southern Cross Road junction beside Albert Park and Junction of Ratu Sukuna QE Drive junction will be closed for the duration of the veiqaravi which is about one hour.”

The road will also be closed along Stinson Parade Road leading into Kings Wharf at 10am tomorrow.

Due to Prime Minister Key’s visit to Naiyala High School on Friday, there will be a temporary closure of Laucala Bay Road to Flagstaff, Rewa Street, BSP Samabula, Princess Road, Nausori towards the Kings Highway will be temporarily closed from 1:30 pm.

ELO: “During these times we request members of the public to take alternative routes as traffic will be affected. We hope everyone can cooperate and assist in ensuring the Hon Prime Minister’s visit is incident free and his delegation is shown the same courtesy bestowed on our leaders when visiting their respective countries.”

Prime Minister Key is expected to arrive at Nausori Airport this afternoon for a two-day visit.
