The Fiji Roads Authority CEO, Jonathan Moore said their contractors had not followed instructions not to work during peak hours and have inadvertently left equipment on the roadside.

“Originally we had instructed the contractors to not work during peak hours. Unfortunately, they and some vehicles were left on the roadside, and that added to the traffic congestion this morning,” said Moore.

The FRA CEO said the Prime Minister’s Office had intervened, and they have had discussions to ensure traffic congestions were not repeated.

“We have instructed the contractors to pull every piece of equipment and every member of their workforce off the road between six and nine-thirty in the morning and also between four and six in the evening.”

The Permanent Secretary for Education, Iowane Tiko assured the public that students would not be disallowed to participate in exams if they are late.

“We have also factored in an internal message to all our school heads to ensure that candidates who arrive late at the school are entertained and allowed access to the examination rooms.”
