The communities in Matailobau District in Naitasiri will greatly benefit from the $1.6 million newly constructed Nabena Irish Crossing.

In a statement, Fiji Roads Authority (FRA) Program Manager for Bridges and Jetties Nixon Toremana said this was another output achieved by FRA under the development of the Rural Roads Project in the Central Division.

TOREMANA: “The new Irish crossing will make a big difference in the lives of the people of Nabena who will now be able to access both sides of the river safely.The FRA is pleased that the local communities can once again safely connect to markets, health access and education opportunities.”

He said the newly constructed Irish Crossing was completed within eight months.

Meanwhile, the Irish Crossing in Wauosi in the Nadroga-Navosa Province is also expected to be completed by the end of August and the construction of the Matewale Irish crossing in the Nadroga-Navosa is set to commence next month.

TOREMANA: “We will continue to build resilience in our road infrastructure to ensure communities are better equipped to deal with cyclones in the future.”

Mr Toremana said both the new Irish Crossings would serve farmers, business centres, health facilities, and schools.
