The village and the Matuku and Delaisese settlements is located on along the 8km Soa Road close to 44km north of Korovou.

Farmers in Soa Village are successful growing dalo and ginger, but it took a sledge pulled by two bulls to help get their produce to market.

Fulton Hogan Hiways Korovou Depot Supervisor Mr. Ulaiasi Bolalailai said that prior to the completion of the road upgrading work, when it rained the road would be nearly impassable with potholes filled with water and the surface so muddy that carriers and taxis could only travel a kilometre with the rest of the distance covered with the sledge and bulls.

Mr. Bolalailai said that the people had to live with these poor road conditions for 10 years, “but not anymore.”

The Fulton Hogan Hiways crew have resheeted and shaped the entire length of the road, installed proper drainage, resulting in a much safer road for both the children and farmers, who have retired the sledge and now have access to proper transport.

Fulton Hogan Hiways continues to service the road network in the more rural areas of the Central and North Divisions in support of the Fiji Roads Authority.
