Fiji Correction Services Spokesperson, Atunaisa Sokomuri told Newswire that the 49-year-old man was caught trying to sneak in the contraband of dried leaves during a special Palm Sunday visiting hours for the inmates.

We had allowed special visitation yesterday for family members to come in and visit inmates since today is a special day-children Sunday, and our prison officers were inside Vaturekuka watching and supervising the visitors, they saw this 49-year-old acting suspiciously.

He had already went in and had discussions with his son who is an inmate and our officers saw them acting suspiciously and they searched the two, upon searching them they found dried leaves on the body of the inmate.

Sokomuri said the man (father) has been referred to the Labasa Police Station for further investigations.

Sokomuri said while the corrections officers are trying to rehabilitate inmates, unfortunately, some continue to disregard this.
