Police spokesperson Inspector Josaia Weicavu said public needed to put a stop to road carnage.

“The cause of death resulted from fractured skull and severe traumatic head injury.  Fatal accident stats now stand at 12 compared to 23 for the same period last year.  Drivers please let’s join hands and put a stop to road carnage on our roads from today onwards.”

Inspector Weicavu told Newswire last week that the rental car was travelling from Korovou town going towards Ra when the accident occurred.

Right now, I can confirm that one person has died in the car accident that happened in Rakiraki, Ra. The person was travelling in a rental car coming from Korovou.

We also received reports that other passengers of the vehicle were rushed to Rakiraki hospital and are being treated.

Inspector Weicavu said another passenger was also injured.

Another 40 year old woman who was also a passenger in the car is now admitted at the Lautoka Hospital in a critical condition.

Inspector Weicavu said the post-mortem is expected to be conducted soon and confirmed that the 31-year-old driver is in police custody pending investigations.
