The support and input from the general public are needed to help the Fiji Police Force.

The Commissioner of Police, Brigadier- General Sitiveni Qiliho while responding to questions if much awareness is done to prevent cases of rape and other crimes happening in Fiji said that the Force cannot do it alone.

We can not do it alone. We are emphasizing and pleading to the public that they need to come on board, without the public providing us with information or going out and becoming aware of what is happening around them and sharing awareness with other people things can not be changed. We can not do it alone otherwise the police force will be a very reactive police force.

Brigadier- General Qiliho said both the Non-Government Organisations (NGOs) and police are playing their parts to raise awareness.

I think the NGOs are doing their part and the police are doing its part through the ‘Duavata Initiative’.

Brigadier- General Qiliho added that the public need to work together beginning from home to villages and churches.

It has start from the home, to all villagers, churches and everybody need to work together not only in terms for rape, violence  or sexual crime against  children but through all criminal activities.

Government has spoken about it, Prime Minister has spoken about it, Minister for Women and Children has spoken about it, some members of the Opposition have spoken about this which may have not been reported. We need to speak up about this issues, otherwiese, like I said the police will just be a reactive force and not a proactive force.

Brigadier- General Qiliho said the people need to be more proactive.

We can not do it alone and we need everyone to play their part.

The public plays a huge role, more than 50% maybe g0 t0 60 or  80%. The public need to be more careful, to be more mindful to be more responsible to provide us  that information before anything happened that we need to work together.
