The Fiji Police Force Crime Statistics Report for 2015 reveals that the highest reports of rape and attempted rape offences are made in the month of June and reduces from July every year since 2012.

Commissioner of Police, Brigadier- General Sitiveni Qiliho said the graph in the report is an accumulative graph, and the number of offences is added up from the year 2011 until 2015.

But if you look at it over the years why it is high, it was the very period in 2012 if I can recall the graph without looking at it was 108 in June.

I think some of the month there was relatively because it is an accumulative graph, you add on that’s why there is a peak for the last five years to clarify on that graph.

There has to be a significant decrease in that area for that thing to drop. If you see 2012 there were 108 cases being reported that’s why there is a peak in there.┬áBut still if you add those months in a year it is still relatively high.

Brigadier- General Qiliho said the Fiji Police Force is trying that to find out why sexual assault cases are at a high throughout those five years.

At the moment, we are trying to digest those stats and act on those information.

Please be aware of the crime for the last five years for some reason it has been high in that period so I on call to people to be extra cautious during this time, other wise it is useless producing this statistics if we not going to do anything about it.

The Fiji Police Force Crime Statistics for 2015 show 284 offences of rape compared to 246 in 2014, the report reveals that this is an increase of 15% (38 cases).  The highest number rape offences recorded was in 2012 with 447 incidents.
