A 40-year-old man has allegedly injured his wife with a cane knife in Sigatoka.    The man was believed to be under the influence of alcohol at the time.

Update 16/02/15: The 40-year-old man has been charged with one count of Act With Intent To Cause Grievous Harm by the Sigatoka Police. He is expected to be produced at the Sigatoka Magistrates Court today. His wife has been discharged from Sigatoka Hospital and is recovering at home.

According to police spokesperson Inspector Josaia Weicavu, the incident occurred early yesterday morning.  The two are believed to be drinking when an argument broke out. The man then picked up a knife and attacked his wife, leaving her with minor injuries.

The woman was rushed to Sigatoka Hospital and remains admitted in the Women’s Ward under observation.

The man is now in police custody and is expected to be charged later today.
