A 8 year-old-boy died in Nasole after a damaged sliding gate fell on him.

In a statement released by Police, Police Spokesperson Inspector Josaia Waicavu said parents need to be more vigilant.

The child who is 8 years of age was sent by his mother to look for his older brother outside their home in Nasole and upon this search, a damaged sliding gate which was leaning against a gate of a temple, fell on the boy. Our advice continues from the alleged drowning of the 10yr old boy of Vuci within the week and now into the end of the week, we have one again lost a child.

The boy was rushed to the Valelevu Health Centre and later transferred to CWM Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

We are advising parents and guardians to be on full alert of their children’s whereabouts and not to send them to a place where their life could be at risk. At the surpass of Tropical Cyclone Winston, there are still so much damages visible around the country and there are risks of our young ones being injured by these.

Inspector Waicavu reiterates that parents play a pivotal role in the supervision of children.

Parents and guardians are to be fully aware of their environment around their homes and the destruction left by TC Winston. They are to decide whether it is safe to send their children outside of their homes or whether keeping them in their homes would be in the best interest fi their safety. Relevant authorities are trying their best to clean and eradicate fallen debris, roofing irons or other damages left by TC Winston and we need your help in the supervision of your children.
