Director Traffic Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mahesh Mishra confirmed this in a statement this morning.

MISHRA: “The arrests were all made last night and in custody are five men aged, 56, 27, 22, 29 and 25 all of whom were found driving under the influence of alcohol. The five will be produced in court on Monday.

SSP Mishra said that despite the repeated pleas from authorities for drivers to practice safe driving habits, Police continue to record cases of drunk driving.

MISHRA: “Driver’s attitudes need to change! Driver’s should not be selfish and should think of the serious consequences driving under the influence of alcohol poses to themselves, their loved ones and other innocent road users.”

Police traffic operations will continue throughout the long weekend and will be focusing on radar operations, coverage of black spot areas, breathalyzer operations, snap checks, illegal operations, and awareness.
