The body of the 19-year-old girl who was swept away by strong currents in Sabeto on Tuesday afternoon was found washed ashore Wailoaloa Beach on Wednesday afternoon.

Dead is Valeriana Veivuke, Police Spokesperson Naina Ragigia said the Sabeto College year-13 student was attempting to cross the Sabeto river when she was swept away by strong currents.

Valeriana Veivuke, the year 13 student of Sabeto College was reported missing to Police on Tuesday. It was reported that the Valeriana tried to swim across the river with three of her friends but she failed to reach the other side of the river due to strong current.

Yesterday, Ragigia said Veivuke’s body was found at 5pm on Wednesday and was taken to the Lautoka Hospital Mortuary.

The DNA test happened today (Thurday) and the results confirmed it was the body of the 19-year-old girl that was reported missing.

The body was identified by the father of the 19-year-old girl at Lautoka Hospital on Thursday morning.

The search for a 19-year-old student is currently underway at Sabeto. 

Police Spokesperson, Naina Ragigia said the girl tried to swim across the river with 3 of her friends and failed to reach the other side of the river due to strong current.

She was swept away by strong current and the search is conducted by police in trying to locate her.

The 19-year- old student is understood to have attempted to cross the Sabeto River yesterday afternoon, upon returning home from school.
