A 13-year-old boy is still admitted at the Sigatoka hospital after he jumped off a moving 3-tonne truck driven by a 48-year-old man at Naceva up the Sigatoka Valley road yesterday evening.  A 7-year-old girl in Yasawa is the latest drowning victim reported by Police.

A 48yr old driver has been charged with one count for ‘Dangerous Driving’ and another count for ‘Drunk and Drive’ by the Sigatoka Police.

The man is alleged to have been driving a 3-tonne truck on its way along the Valley road on Saturday afternoon. Upon this same trip, a 13-year-old boy was on board and allegedly jumped off the moving vehicle.

Police spokesperson Inspector Josaia Weicavu said the 13-year-old boy is still admitted at the Lautoka hospital.

Passengers should not jumped off a moving vehicle as it is so dangerous and have claimed the life of some in the past.

The 13 year old boy remains admitted at the Lautoka Hospital in a stable condition.

Inspector Weicavu said that this is the second incident of similar nature at the same area in the last three days.

The 7-year-old girl drowned at sea whilst swimming with 2 other children. Police Inspector Josaia Waicevu said that parents should closely monitor their children in areas where schools are still closed.

Parents and guardians are advised to again closely supervise their children especially in the area where schools are still closed.

Not to allow their children go out swimming without supervision.

Police have confirmed that the post-mortem of the 7-year-old girl is expected to be carried out later today.
