Twelve people have lost their lives from drowning accidents across the country this year.

This was confirmed by Police spokesperson Inspector Josaia Weicavu.

Inspector Weicavu said the number is significantly less than for the same period last year.

WEICAVU: “The current drowning statistics reveal that 12 people died as a result of drowning, this has been a decrease of 9 compared to the same period last year. The current figure excludes the latest incident in Kadavu as the Fiji Police Force awaits the post-mortem report.”

Statistics provided by police shows that this time last year Fiji had recorded 21 drowning deaths.
