Two Chinese police consultants from the People’s Republic of China spent the last nine months with the Fiji Police Force, under a co-operation agreement signed between the countries in 2011.

Superintendent Class 1 Zhang Zheng and his colleague Supervisor Class 1 Wang Xiang are from the Hubei Provincial Public Security Department.

The two police consultants are the third attachment of officers from the Ministry of Public Security to be seconded to the Fiji Police Force. This is another outcome of the continuing relations between the People’s Republic of China and the Fiji Government.

In 2011 the Government of the People’s Republic of China and the Government of Fiji signed the Police Cooperation Agreement which has to date seen the two Police organisations exchange assistance in many forms.

Superintendent Class 1 Zhang Zheng said it was an honour to be selected by the Ministry of Public Security to serve in Fiji.

“Fiji is a beautiful place and the people are very friendly and it has been wonderful working with the Fiji Police Force”.

With his background in traffic operations Mr Zheng had spent a lot of his time with the Traffic Department.

“Obviously China is different from Fiji in many operational aspects as we rely mainly on technology to police our roads while a lot of manpower is dedicated to enforce road rules here”.
