New judges appointed to appeals court

The President, Major General (Ret’d) Jioji Konousi Konrote today swore-in two new Court of Appeal Judges at the State House. 

Madam Justice Sithy Wajiha Farzana Jameel and Justice Navaratne Mudiyanselage Wasantha Navaratne Bandara took their oath before the Head of State in the presence of the Hon. Chief Justice Mr Justice Anthony Gates and the Hon. Justice William Calanchini.

Justice Bandara and Justice Jameel will serve as Justice of Appeal of the Court of Appeal on the Non-Resident Panel.

Madam Jameel was educated at the University College London (UCL), in the United Kingdom in Administrative Law, International Law of Natural Resources, International Environmental Law and International Trade Law.

She is the Senior Deputy Solicitor General at the Attorney General’s Department in Sri Lanka.

Justice Bandara was educated at the University of Colombo with a Master of Law in Public International Law and Masters of Law in Commercial and Corporate Law from the University of London (King’s College).

Before his appointment, Justice Bandara served as a President’s Counsel in Sri Lanka.
