A 35-year-old surf instructor convicted of murder has been sentenced to life imprisonment by the Lautoka High Court this afternoon.

Lloyd Richard Senikaucava appeared before Justice Aruna Aluthge for the murder of an Australian tourist, Tracy Ann O’Brien Maw.

The 44-year-old tourist was murdered in Sigatoka in 2014.

Justice Aluthge sentenced Senikaucava to the mandatory sentence for murder of life imprisonment and set a minimum term of 16 years to be served before he is eligible to apply for release.

A 35-year-old surfing instructor was convicted of one count of murder of an Australian tourist by the Lautoka High Court.

Lloyd Richard Senikaucava appeared before Justice Aruna Aluthge for allegedly murdering 44-year-old Tracy Ann O’Brien Maw in Sigatoka in 2014.

Justice Aluthge concurred with the Assessors unanimous guilty opinion and convicted him.

The State Prosecutor filed and served its sentencing submission and the victim impact report.

Justice Aluthge has adjourned the matter to tomorrow for mitigation submissions from the defence.
