An Indian national, Mukesh Shankarsinh Purohit was sentenced to 3 years 11 months imprisonment by the Suva Magistrates’ Court yesterday.

Mukesh Shankarsinh Purohit was convicted of using a forged document and conspiracy to defraud-influencing a public official and appeared before Chief Magistrate Usaia Ratuvili.

He used a birth certificate knowing that it was false and conspired with another person with the intention of dishonestly influencing Fiji Immigration Officers in the exercise of their duties in the issuance of a passport.

He has 28 days to appeal his sentence.
