Ratu Tikoca’s lawyer had made an application to Suva Magistrate Makereta Mua today.

He has been allowed to travel overseas from the 24th of August to the 4th of September.

Magistrate Mua has ordered for Tikoca’s passport to be released and returned on 15th September.

Parliamentarians, Viliame Gavoka and Jiosefa Dulakiverata were his sureties.

FICAC lawyers did not object to the request for travelling overseas.

A copy of an official letter from the Parliament of the Republic of Fiji confirming Tikoca’s invitation to attend the meeting was presented in court by Tikoca’s lawyer.

Ratu Tikoca is charged with failure to declare his liabilities contrary to section 24 of the Political Parties Registration, Conduct, Funding and Disclosures Decree.

He pleaded not guilty last month.

The matter will be called for mention on the 27th of September 2016.

Opposition Whip Ratu Isoa Tikoca appeared in the Suva Magistrate’s Court this morning charged with failing to declare liabilities contrary to section 24 of the Political Parties Registration Decree.

The court heard that Ratu Isoa’s lawyer Faizal Koya of Nadi was not able to go through the Pretrial Conference Minutes (PCM) due to a power failure in Nadi.  The case has been adjourned to the 15th of March 2016.

Ratu Isoa appeared before Chief Magistrate Usaia Ratuvili.

Mr Tikoca first appeared before Magistrate Margaret Mua in April last year.

Magistrate Mua had released Mr Tikoca on a $1000 bail.

His sureties, parliamentarians Viliame Gavoka and Josefa Dulakiverata, signed a surety bond of $1000.

Magistrate Mua had also ordered for Mr Tikoca’s passport to be surrendered to the court registry.

FICAC had alleged:

That between August 20-25, 2014, upon his nomination by the Social Democratic Liberal Party as a candidate for the 2014 election, failed to declare the liability and the amount of the liability to the Registrar, the permanent secretary responsible for the Elections, that he had incurred to the Government of Fiji, during his tenure as the Fiji’s High Commissioner to Papua New Guinea.
