There is no outbreak of diseases recorded after Tropical Cyclone Winston. This was confirmed by Minister for Health & Medical Services Hon. Jone Usamate earlier today.

During this time of the year normally we’re on the watch out for things like dengue and typhoid, leptospirosis and so far the information that has been coming through is that rates at which these diseases are occurring is similar to what we’ve had last year so there’s been no outbreaks and this is showing the work that has been done so far to help communities look after all the things they need to address such as mosquitoes and sanitation.

The Minister added that the one patient who was tested positive for Zika in the Western Division has been cured and discharged from hospital.

There is no outbreak. There has been no other cases of Zika. These numbers of Dengue are the same compared to last year. People need to be proactive and destroy mosquito breeding places especially around there houses and communities which may have been damaged due to the cyclone.
