Minister for Health and Medical Services, Hon. Rosy Akbar made these remarks at the Nursing Supervisors and Management Symposium in Suva this afternoon.

The Minister commended the work of nurses especially during Tropical Cyclone Winston and encouraged them to continue providing the best support and care to all Fijians.

Minister Akbar added that there is still room for improvements as far as health service delivery is concerned.

“As leaders in your roles you need to motivate, inspire and guide those who report to you so that you are able to meet the vision and the mission of the Ministry. You need to serve with compassion, dedication, and diligence because you have been entrusted to deliver essential health services for the benefit of our nation,” she said.

She also reiterated for nurses to go above and beyond the call of duty to ensure patients receive the best health care.

The Ministry has so far recruited 230 nurses while 251 positions are expected to be filled by January 2017.
