The Attorney-General and Minister for Finance, Mr. Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum met with the Indian Minister for External Affairs Ms. Sushma Swaraj in New Delhi last Friday.

The AG informed Minister Swaraj about the devastation left behind by tropical cyclone Winston and the relief efforts by government. He also acknowledged and thanked the Indian Government for the financial assistance and relief supplies provided to Fiji, noting that India was one of the first countries to provide direct budget support to the Fijian Government.

The AG and Minister Swaraj also discussed other areas of Indian assistance and collaboration including reconstruction efforts, agricultural support particularly in providing seeds suitable for the climatic conditions in Fiji and Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) development.

The Indian Minister is expected to visit Fiji in the next few months.

The AG is in New Delhi to attend the IMF Conference, Advancing Asia from 11 to 13 March. He will be part of a high-level panel discussion on the challenges of Climate Change and Economic Resilience.
