The Pasifika Voices have created history by being the first in the Oceania region to record a soundtrack for a Hollywood animation movie.

This was highlighted by the USP Vice-Chancellor and President, Professor Rajesh Chandra during his welcoming address at the second Laucala Campus graduation ceremony for 2016.

The choir recorded the soundtrack for the highly anticipated animation movie, Moana.

CHANDRA: “Our students are being recognised around the world with their performance, even if it has to be in Arts or any other things. Our Pasifika Voices recorded all the choral arragement for the upcoming highly anticipated animation movie Moana and I have been told that producers,components and directors that all have been given great reviews of what the Pasifika Voices has achieved.”

A team from Disney arrived in the country last Monday to record the twenty singers, who are part of the University of the South Pacific’s Choir.

Member of the Pasifika Choir, Pita Waqavonovono said that Pasifika Voice Choirs have opened the door to Disney and Hollywood and it is now the duty of all Fijian and the Pacific artists to keep those door open.

WAQAVONOVONO: “I am part of the Moana Disney recording Choir. I joined for one reason and that was to open to the doors into Disney and Hollywòod for Choirs and Cultural groups like Pasifika Voices. I wanted to be part of an occasion that would launch many careers and that would allow many talented young people to take their talent to Disney.”

The film features Auli’i Cravalho as Moana and Dwayne Johnson as Maui.

Moana is scheduled to be released by Walt Disney Pictures on November 23, 2016
